The Kiss
Video and Sound Installation
2001
“The Kiss” addresses ideas around celebrity‚ Hollywood and romantic love. The installation references “the big kiss” and walks the line between melodrama and sincerity exploring both the power and transparency of cinematic romance.
Installation Description: “The Kiss” is a video and sound installation using two video projectors‚ aimed directly at each other‚ creating an out of focus image on the opposing wall. One video projection is of a young man and the other is of a young women. A loud kiss sound is heard as each subject leans forward and pecks the air. The timing between attempts varies and rarely‚ if ever‚ meets the other's kiss. As the viewer explores the space‚ he/she discovers each projector's focus point is in the center of the room‚ where the two projected images cross. The in-focus images can only be seen as the viewer walks through and interrupts the kiss.
